Vascular Access
Vascular Access refers to the medical procedure and devices used to gain entry into a patient’s bloodstream through a vein or artery. It provides a direct pathway for administering fluids, medications, blood products, or for collecting blood samples. Vascular access can be short-term (like an intravenous cannula used for a few hours or days) or long-term (such as central venous catheters, dialysis catheters, or ports used for weeks to months). Devices are designed to ensure safe, reliable, and repeated entry into the vascular system while minimizing discomfort, infection risk, and vessel injury. Vascular access forms the foundation for therapies such as infusion, dialysis, chemotherapy, and intensive care monitoring.
